People abusing the "young" player status

had today about 10+ youngs afk wood gathering

looks like the only way to stop these abusing is to remove young status
You could actually page a GM on that, AFK resource gathering (regs, wood, ore, etc) is banned on UOF. One of the few things you are not allowed to afk macro, along with Taming.

Monsters do attack young status players in most dungeons. The only advantage as a young status on dungons is you can't be directly attacked by players or poisoned. While this isn't all it is most.

They were taken care of already from what I heard.

There's just something funny about seeing a young tag beside lord/lady title. With the amount of people abusing young player status I honestly think things would be better without this. Have new players start off in a dungeon and when they leave that dungeon they are no longer under any sort of protection.

its only because of the recent increase in amount of time a player can be young, like 40 hours or something, up from like five or whatever it was.

being frozen for 60 seconds is a tad severe, all it does is gives the young player the first attack, which in the case of stunpunch, is a tad overpowering.

but that's just the word on the field

What would be nice overall is some upgrades to that system as a whole, including warning gumps for leaving safe areas and also taking away young ability to keep all items when no longer in safe areas like towns and newb dungeon.

Increasing the amount of total young time to 40 hours is a good move, IMO. This is a complicated game, and nowadays people are used to "14-day trials" and whatnot, and just the general sense of being able to try a game before too much is at stake.

However they should not have full access to the whole game. It should impossible to gain/lose fame or karma, youngs should not be allowed entry into dungeons/RDAs/champs, they should not be able to place a house, and to cut down on resource gathering give them a max weight limit of 200lbs. This means they can still start the game, explore the world & towns, level up some skills, and learn the items while still being protected. Young status should be a severely restricted mode of play, not a severely benefited one. Model it after other MMOs' free trials, f2p periods, etc. As of now you are basically welcoming players to abuse the system by giving so many benefits without any drawback.

So as a fairly new casual player, I just created my 2nd account and did a poisoner. I did GM poisoning in my house, and figured out an F'd off way to make my alchemist fill the keg in a chest my poisoner was doing and wasted waaaaaaaaay too much money doing it because I was in a house... and did it without ever poisoning myself even though I had an if/then set to cure me.

I still have never gotten a power scroll or found one of these champion spawns everyone talks about. :(

Champs are done in groups and most guilds do them together. There's no possible way to do one solo. At least, I don't know of any way to-if so then I am not as informed as I thought.

I do believe the intro to this game is weak, the tutorial I mean, if you've never played before and stumble across this game you're pretty much screwed unless you meet someone who's willing to help you get started, and considering the number of youngs I've helped it can't be many. Here's an idea, noobie island, have little tutorial npcs placed around the island to help explain game mechanics, farm a little gold off small mobs, maybe allow companions access for further help to these guys, and let them on there for 10 hrs of gameplay or so, then boot em, or give em the option to leave whenever, that way experienced kids can skip it, but if the make a new account and leave newbie island, they lose young status once they enter sosaria. I like this idea

The learning curve is steep compared to any other game out there today. My 11 year old son watches me play and wants to play himself. However, he's used to nothing else like this and would literally be fish food. Sure, I could help him but it would take weeks.

I love this, "newbie island" would be great. No PKing, only [Young] players allowed. This is what EA tried to do with Haven on the official servers. They "destroyed" Haven in Trammel with an invasion and rebuilt a new city on the land called "New Haven" designed for this purpose. Tutorial NPCs and little quests were everywhere so you could learn the game.

and another Lord young player with an orc slaying val colored hammer.

Outside of the newbie dungeon the only time I see people playing young players is for profit. You have got to wonder just how much gold someone like this is making with absolutely no risk.

I'm just mad these people are doing way cooler shit than I've been able to do even with my new 2nd account and only new char I'll ever have again. :(
