Blacksmithing

Whether sweating over a fiery forge to create a masterpiece or hammering dents and polishing scratches from a favored piece of plate mail, the blacksmith of Britannia is a skilled craftsman who often finds his or her services in high demand.

The skill of Blacksmithy involves: smelting metal Items and ores; Crafting arms and armaments; enhancing certain metal Items; and repairing applicable Items.

There is a special collection of Bulk Order Deeds available for Smiths to fill out. Returning these provides special mining tools and other Items as rewards. For the Smith in training, these can help speed the time it takes to acquire more ingots - For advanced players, Power Scrolls and Runic Hammers may be earned. See BOD wiki for more details.

In the Blacksmith menu a player can choose to use different types of ore. The stronger the ore the more durability a weapon has, or the more AR (armor rating) the created armor will carry. For example a simple dexer suit in Iron provides 34 AR but a valorite version of that same armor gives 51AR.

Blacksmiths can also make "repair deeds" by using a smith tool at a forge - selecting repair, and clicking a blank scroll. Once a player obtains GM they may "mark" any exceptional crafted item created with his/her name. Lady/Lord titles are included in the mark. Blacksmiths Crafting in the Britain Crafting Area will also have a chance to create "slayer" weapons. See the Slayer wiki for more details.

A skilled character may learn special Blacksmithy Recipes in order to create yet more powerful weapons.

Power Scrolls and Skill Scrolls are also available for this skill.

Smelting
The process for smelting ores and recycling metal Items into their constituent ingots differs.

Ores
  • Stand near a forge.
  • Double-click the ore pile you wish to smelt into ingots.

Metal Items
The manual, or old school, method of smelting, or recycling, metal Items into their constituent ingots involves:
  • Double-click a smith’s hammer, tongs, or sledgehammer that is located in your backpack.
  • A menu will appear.
  • Select the Smelt Item button in the lower left-hand corner.
  • Target the item you wish to melt into ingots. (If smelting self-crafted Items, will yield half of ingots used to create the item.)
Crafting
To create an item using the Blacksmithy skill:
  • Stand near a forge and anvil (either, alone is insufficient).
  • Double-click a smith’s hammer, tongs, or sledgehammer that is located in your backpack.
  • A menu will appear displaying the different categories of Items you can craft.
  • Select a category and click on the button next to the item you wish to craft.
If successful, the crafted item will appear in your backpack. If successful and lucky, the crafted item will be exceptional. A Blacksmith can opt to include his or her maker’s mark on such exceptional Items. The Crafting menu contains a toggle in the lower right-hand corner to turn the maker’s mark option on or off.

Alternate Training Method
The below method is determined to be the best route to obtain GM Blacksmith as far as lowest cost.

0 – 50 I recommend you buy your Skills from Roberta the blacksmith guildmistress in the Hammer and Anvil shop attached to the Britain Crafting area.
50 – 72 Kryss/Cutlass with Short Spear for variety
72 – 90 Short Spears with the odd gorget for variety
90 – 100 Making Plate gorgets with Arms for variety
100-120s Skill Scrolls

TIP: Orc Cave is the only dungeon in the game with forges/anvil's. Just be warned - The Ork's do not like visitors.

I just hit GM today following the steps above. It went really fast and took me just under 20k ingots (well fed in orc cave). Was a bit slow around the transition from spears to gorgets, but really flew from 97 to 100.
Great guide.

Any Legendary Blacksmiths care to share a list/screenshot of everything that can be crafted with this skill and at what skill level?

Reason I ask... I'm curious if there is anything that requires over 100 skill to be crafted, or if increasing to 120 just is to increase your success rate. Planning on making my crafter soon and playing around with which skills to have and skill cap.

If you're going to fill those Ex Platemail bods, those ex chests don't exactly make themselves @ 100, But with higher skill from PS or ASH - you'll have to smelt a lot less of them.

does having a higher bs skill then 100 increase the chance of making slayer/specail weps? or is it only fail rate?

Yes, higher BS increases chance of making Slayers and exceptional colored plate. There is no special tool to increase past GM (100), but using Skill Scrolls is the best way and cheapest way to go.

This short guide still sums it up best.

I took 16k ings and 4 bs scrolls....Made shortspears till 96 and ate 4 scrolls. Did all in orc dungeon . I did it differently I brought 2500 ingots and hid next to forge and smelted them as I crafted. You could just bring like 1000, when you are resmelting it they go a long while. And less recalling means less trouble with pks/orcs. I didnt use a mask. I did it in about 4 hours. Ingots are about 10k per 1k...i got mine for 8 each so 16k x 8 per = 128k
4 blacksmith ss were 9k each and that makes a total of 36k
If i bought 30k that would be 16k more ingots so on average of 10 thats 160k, minus 40k max for the bs ss, so thats 120k extra you are paying and wasting a lot of extra time. So save yourself some time, and about 120k and do it the smart way. You need hiding if you plan to craft slayers. Blacksmith ss sell for 5-10k usually and they are easy to find. With that extra 120k you could get a 105 ps and 5 bs ss, and still have some left over to make enough slayers to make a good amount your $$$ back.

@Yoko Kurama Know where I can get a rune to the place where I can raise BS in the orc dungeon?
And what does recall has to do with risk of PKing and orcs ? Didnt understand that point since the logic is the opposite, less ingots I have, less the loss I could have in case of being PKed or killed by an orc ...

Well it was just saying bring less ingots at a time in case you do get PKd. When you recall in, sometime it takes a second to lead the orcs away from the spot...However, you could just use orc mask. Ill be in game, get me on mumble or discord. Ill show you the spot np.Be there in 15 or so.
