Defense Talisman Guide

So the ONLY function alone as the talisman is the -50% damage? The others do not trigger at all without the relics?

Correct, the -50% damage includes spells and physical. It makes a big difference. I played another dexer that didn't have a talisman and I was like ewww. I turned that toon into a mage. The abilities only trigger with the relics in place. Here's a quick run down:

Quench - it has a 30 second cool down (I think its 30 secs). It gives you a period of time where you are immune to firebreath. I think its around 5 seconds of immunity per level. Its fun to kite dragons around Destard. I can pretty much kite all the dragons on level 1 destard. I've stat'd a lot of reds that were chasing me this way by kiting and hiding.

Remedy - same as quench but with poison. Pretty useful.

Recoil - recoil reflects one hit from a monster and deals the damage back to them. Its cool down timer reduces in duration as you level it up. I have this one max'd out and it makes no difference to game play.

Leech - slightly better than recoil but also not a very effective relic. You occasionally zap a miniscule amount of life from enemies around you.

There's bloody explosion relic. This is the aesthetic relic. It just blows up corpses and scatters body parts. The body parts can be used as food by my tamer guildies so it does provide some functionality.

Overall, the defense talisman is pretty solid. If you enjoy playing a tank then its definitely going to boost your ability. Another good idea would be to level up one of these talismans and then switch that character over to a red mage. You would have a major advantage when you are hunting blues in dungeons with one of these talismans.

Some players have asked me if the defense talisman is worth the effort when it comes to PVM ability. Basically, will the time and effort put into the talisman be worth it when it comes to farming and acquiring wealth? Nope, not by a long shot. The amount of time that goes into a talisman would reap much larger rewards if a player spent that time on a tamer. So, make a meta dexer/mage if you want a unique gameplay style. If a player is looking to better their socioeconomic standing then a tamer is a wiser choice.

I have killed balrons with no slayer armor and no talisman with 2 fencers before. The ideal situation would be to team up 2 guys, one with a berserker and one with a defensive.

We should brainstorm a list of big creatures and try it out. We could make a thread and post some screenshots. I don't know who has max'd out berserkers though. I'm sure there are some out there.

Hey guys, whats up ?

Some noob questions regarding relics and talisman, I am really lost about it ...

Is there a point of having a Phylactery of Resiliance talisman if I dont have the relics?

Can I use any of the four skills associated to it if I dont have relics?
In case I can't, is there any benefit of having the talisman without relics?

By what I have been reading, relics are REALLY hard to get, right? So taking that in consideration, is it worth having the talisman without relics?

thanks guys and sorry for the noobs questions =)

Training the talisman itself is still useful without the relics. You get 10% damage reduction from mobs per level. IE level 2 = 20% dmg reduction.

The relics are hard to obtain for any talisman. I'd suggest to new players that they farm dragons since its MOTM. They will provide fafnir crystals and a chance of a relic on their corpse (for the next two days at least while dragons are MOTM.) Also keep an eye out for arch demon and try to get the timer. Arch demon is a quick way to get a chance at a relic.

Honestly though. You might want to just go berserker talisman. It gives you better scores at champs, arch demon, and RDA's. Its probably more useful overall.

I have a maxed out meta mage, a maxed out berserker, a lvl 5 defensive talisman. For pets I have maxed out dragon, steed and spider (only lvl 5 carapace, other relics maxed).

For farming, nothing beats the dragon, steed combo, same with RDAs (as far as damage goes).

However, town invasions are almost always won by defensive talisman toons, seconded by berserkers.

For champ spanws it is different though.....
Deceit - berserker
Abyss - Dragon/steed
Shame - Spider
Destard - Spider
Tera - Spider, however I think the defensive talisman may be best here, I've seen Tard tear this one up. But I don't have a high enough tali to test myself. Levels 3 and 4 are better suited for a defensive talisman than a spider.
Despise - Dragon/steed
Wrong - Meta Mage - screw the karma, just go nuts and kill everything from a safe distance
Cove - Dragon/steed

So there is value in making more than one type of character for late game interests.

It rocks Destard, I average around 130k score. Just drop it in middle and have earthquake scrolls with protection cast. Can also drop some poison fields

You can really do the same with meta dragon and steed, they won't die through level 1 if left alone and will survive lvl 2 with pretty much minimal healing. Considering that in those 2 levels you do 70% + of the score i'd call it a tie. Also that QS rocks drakes and dragons in level 3 and 4. Nox is also decent in the first 2 levels, lethal poison with all those harmless critters around is actually quite good.

Yeah spider loses its magic after level 2, no doubt. But you gain a ton until then, and you don't have to heal it at all
