Like slayer weapons, the books have to be equipped for the slayer effect to be active. There is no need to add spells to the slayer spellbooks. Keep your normal spellbook in your backpack, equip your slayer spellbook and then send those e-bolts flying ;)

@Googlymoogly & @Potac As I understand it, a chest is considered one item. A stack of something, for example 30k gold, is considered one item. This item count limit is referring to individual items. So you would have to stack 100+ chests or 100+ gold coins to hit this limit.
