Yes there is a moongate near Brit and one of the options is Minoc. You have to do a little bit of running but if you google a map of the world or if you have UOAM, you can find them easily. I have no magery or scrolls either and use the moongate to travel back and forth at the moment.

You could always go to Minoc to mine your resources and bank it until you have a stockpile. When you are ready to craft go to brit and craft there.
