Just bought a new Touchscreen laptop with windows 8.1. I use too play this game on an older windows 7 without any problems besides having to change the compatibility and Visual Themes/Administrator ect ect. After I log-in, my mouse Stutters as if i'm getting about 1 frame ever few seconds and movement is about as bad. My ping stays at a solid 50~ It feels as if i'm trying to play Crysis on ultra settings with horrible frame hick-ups, however this game is NOT Crysis ;-P Is this a known problem? Any and all advice would be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you!!

As much as I want to make a Windows 8 joke, there's been bad lag for days and multiple people have posted about it lately

Also, you may check to see if you have "Smart CPU reduction" checked in your razor settings. This can cause some computers to lag.

Yeah I turned off Smart CPU Reduction, and I checked again and yes my ping shoots way up their, eventually if I force myself to try and play, the game will eventually go unresponsive and I have to force close the game. I absolutely HATE windows 8, been debating on buying a windows 7 key and switching back ugh... Thanks Failsoft... Anyways, so this is happening to everyone? I guess it would make since how when I very first ran the game it ran smooth as can be, but I lost my mouse. I come back plugged in my mouse after I found it, and just HORRIBLE unplayable lag. I wasn't sure if my problem was related to anyone elses...

be sure to update to windows 8.1 (shouldn't fix your issue, but good to do) if it's not already at 8.1
Did you install your new video drivers? Also remember, laptops with built in graphic cards and GPU's have an option for you to select to use your low in, low heat, low battery Intel video driver or your massive high speed, heat producing power sucking GPU. This can be found under Control Panel>Nvidia Control Panel(or ATI)>Manage 3d Settings> You'll find two tabs one is Global settings but also Program Settings, you should be able to override client.exe for UO there to use your real GPU vs the laptops low end gpu.

Given that its a touch screen laptop, most touch screen laptops that I know if don't have a higher end GPU installed as they're not geared towards gamers. So you may not have a "real graphics card" install on your laptop. Hence the crappy frame rate.

Can you try another game that is graphically challenging? see how that performs.

Windows 8 shouldn't be the core of your issue, the lack of drivers or other things may be the problem but any new laptop should be able to handle UO without much issue at all.

I'll keep an eye on this and let you know if I think of anything, also once IRC is back up (I thin it's down) feel free to PM me Nice: MindScream and we'll see if we can check other issues.

G'Luck!

I've logged into 3 separate servers and all of which give me this horrendous lag, so I know it's not server side. My power settings are on Performance, and the only game I could think of trying real fast was City of Steam, and it worked without a problem (except when I was around a few people at that newb zone or w/e) So it's definitely something not working correctly with the Ultima Online client. The Graphics are intergraded, but the HD 4600 is better then my previous 4200. Drivers are updated, .NET is at 4.5.2, with DirectX 11... I can't think of anything else that could be the problem. As I stated when I very first started the program (Just after installing) The game ran perfect, until I Plugged in my wireless mouse and the game instantly started running like This. Even If I don't have this mouse plugged in.

I should note that I used Windows 8 and currently use Windows 8.1 and neither provided me problems like this.

Also, it may be worth a shot but try uninstalling UO and reinstalling again.
I'm having issues myself connecting to IRC via Flash (I'm having firewall issues) haha
But if you're on later tonight let me know and I'll walk you over the steps to install, I just did it myself and was somewhat painless. (except Razor wanted to be installed on C drive and not my SSD drive) so be sure to install Razor at least on C!
