Mixed language & Tooltip displayed incorrectly

Hi!

I recently returned to UOF after almost a years break. Now, after re-installing, my client seems to be bugged really hard.

1. The ingame language is quite a messy mix of english and german (setting keyboard to EN US or EN UK doesn't help like suggested in another thread)

2. The tooltip for items, monsters and corpses is not displayed correctly in some cases. When I want to buy commodity deed from a vendor, clicking it only shows 'a commodity deed'. I can't see what's inside until I buy it and take it to the bank.

3. The moongates menu doesn't show the town's names. I have to guess where each menu point will take me.

4. Similar to "3" the craftig menus are completely empty, too. I have to guess which item I'll be crafting.

Re-installing doesn't help apparently. Any way to fix any of this? I really can't be bothered to play like this.

Thank you in advance!

Regards
Foo

I believe the fix here is your language settings for Windows.

Could you explain a little further?
I have Windows 7 Home Premium in german. As it stands, you can't change the language in Home Premium - just Enterprise and Ultimate editions can install a language pack.

In another thread people were suggesting that changing the input language (keyboard language) might help with the mixed language, but it certainly doesn't do anything for me :/

Any other ideas?

Hi!

I got this issue on two Computers too. It was a long way to solve it. I'll send you a PM in German for what you have to do!

Hey halv, few peoples have the same problem here. Could you explain us your way to get out of this situation ?
Thanx !

There are many reasons for the wrong language...

... normally you only need to install UOF with English key set turned on. You can switch back to your native language after first start.
But sometimes it doesn't work and you need to do this:
Delete transerv.exe in UO folder and edit uo.cfg and add:
UserLanguageCodeString=ENU
change to:
TranslationServer=off
TranslationServerAutomatic=off

do the same in C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\EA Games\Ultima Online Legacy\User Data for each account and charakter in uo.cfg!

Good luck!

Hey, I googled for you:

If you'd rather play UO in English than in your native language, you may set UO to use English in your uo.cfg files. Please close UO before editing these files, or your changes may not be saved.

Add the following line to your uo.cfg files; be sure to change the one in your main UO directory, and the one found in each character's Ultima Online\Desktop folder for which you prefer to use English language:

UserLanguageCodeString=ENU

Once you have added that line to the uo.cfg file, be sure to Save the file before closing it.

Hope this helps.

Seems to work.
apparently its possible to keep my language ingame, but turning translation off an deleted transerv saved me.
Thanx to all !
