Galleon questions

I was just curious on the differences of the galleons. I noticed just about everybody rocks the Tokuno junk ship. I was just wondering if there was any good reason to rock the orc and gargoyle galleons. The wiki is pretty bare. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Folks prefer the Tokuno because of the speed.. The Orc has a serious Mast issue that doesn't allow you to get close to anything. And the Garg is very slow. Like, any slower and you'll be going backwards, slow..

Thank you for the reply. That kind of makes me sad, the garg ship looks better than the other two. Dirty Junk ships =(

ya, the garg also takes up a lot of screen.. In my opinion, it's harder to maneuver. Frito loves the Orc.. I prefer a Large Dragon or Tokuno.. so I guess it depends on your style.

Orc Gally has 2 less cannons, more armor, faster reloads and same speed as a large dragon boat. Fix the damn sail issue and its the best boat hands down.

I thought the mast issue got fixed, or was getting fixed, for the recent patch/restart?

The classic ships are smaller and easier to maneuver. Galleons really require crews to make the most of. I won't get into tactical details, but suffice to say you're a bigger target. Lots of damage per broadside but heavy guns require the Improved Cannons upgrade to be reliable; even at 100% accuracy at level 10 the small guns can still miss (go figure). That means 1 less upgrade just to make use of your cannons properly, so giving up Chainshot, Improved Munitions, Superb Sails or Crow's Nest.

We've taken out orcish ships with a Tokuno as well as Gargish ships no problem. As @Phineas said, it's about your playstyle. But the biggest thing is DO NOT TREAT THE TOKUNO LIKE A GALLEON. More specifically, like a man-o-war; it's an interdiction/interceptor kind of ship, merchant vessel, scout - that sort of thing. If you do not hit-and-run with it you will sink fast against an actual fighter (large dragon, orc, garg).

.

Wow! They did fix the Mast.. Looks like Orc gallys will start to populate.. As far as giving up an upgrade goes, which one do you give up? heh Arrrr

It would depend on the ship. I use a large dragon preferably, so don't have to worry about improved cannons. I would give up chain shot on a Tokuno, and Crow's Nest on either the orc or the gargish. They're tanks designed to take a beating, but they aren't effective interceptors or chasers.
