A Possible Solution to The Problem of PvP

In addition to my suggested idea, my goal would be to have each months season end to show a score board of all participants and show who got the rewards.

Great, thanks for stopping by.

I do wanna go on record by saying that I feel like rewards unique to a system is a better bet. Again, shouts out to [eventscore for being different.

But really any incentive will drive participation and beggars can't be choosers.

powerscrolls and relics for pvp ?

cant wait to see all the new vpn abused accounts to farm that shit.

This is the same sort of shit we only ever here from you girana.. great you know how to cheat every system, why don't you contribute to the conversation with a suggestion that helps...

At one point we were linking accounts to the forum - why not put that to good use? Only accounts that are linked can participate? That means 3 accounts max linked to one forum account, if any of those 3 accounts are found in a VPN situation with other accounts, you cut off their ability to receive rewards, all rewards, power scrolls from champs, motm drops, everything, for 3 months. Harsher penalties, really makes it not worth cheating.. just need to code into the drops to accomplish this.

Out of everything you listed, none of them require additional skills to use, and all of them were used on OSI... besides expl potions.

You need extra skills to use explo pot? Tell me more.

Even WoW managed to get casual PvE characters into PvP battlegrounds by significantly increasing the incentive for doing so

Battlegrounds was terrible and killed world pvp overnight.

I fully support your sentiment of getting more people in to pvp, its just very hard to do it in a good way, that is why it hasn't been done yet.

On the pvp mechanics side what would you change to accomodate casual players?

Changing PvP mechanics to accommodate the casual players is a horrible idea, and impossible because veterans will just find new ways to own the field.

By providing incentive, you pull casuals into PvP, creating a more diverse field where casuals can compete because there are other casuals they are fighting against and not just the veterans. The more they fight the better they then become, so they can stand a chance again veterans..

PvP is not hard it just takes practice.. but the gap is a wide one, mostly due to honed skill level over 20 years.. it's about finding ways to bridge that gap.

I don't think any incentives will get normal pvm players into pvping. If they are unwilling to fight back at some shitty ass pk'er...would they really go looking to battle the hard core pvper?

My only concern is by having these new pvp incentives- it will just benefit the top tier pvpers who are going to pvp regardless of these benefits.

That being said- if it makes players happy and gets them logging in more I'm all for it.

The thing is Zog, I know many players who PvM, and fight PK'r's.. but the main reason they don't focus on PvP is because there is no incentive to do so..

Why does everything everyone does need to end with a relic? I love pixels as much as anyone else...but I also play the game for fun. I think there is an opportunity we keep missing with champ spawns. Tangible reasons for pvm based players to fight back and for pvp characters to get involved. Enable a couple of the virtues so that players can pop their own spawns, so that pvp'ers must kill reds so that they can offer protection at spawns and get protection scrolls as rewards for doing so. The biggest battles back in the day on Atlantic or Chessy were between spawn guilds and fighting/raiding over spawns.

yea, lets focus on systems to bring players into pvp who do not want to fight in the first place (else theyd already fight). Why? All of this makes no sense imo. We do not need rewards for PVP. I do not see any “casual players” joining PVP just because theres a chance to win a relic.

I agree, I don't think it needs to end with relics, however from a long term goal standpoint, financial rewards help, and that's what a relic is to most.

I personally thing providing unique rewards for PvP'rs would be more desirable than giving them PvM rewards...

I'm a casual player who focuses on PvM because PvP does not feel rewarding.. there is no progression, nothing to be gained through 5 hours of PvP.. except some fun.. if there were ranks, scoreboards, anything to make it feel like anything more than a resource drain, I might focus more on PvP, as I'm a PvP'r at heart...

Instead PvM offers me talismans and relics which have levels to progress through.. housing, and rares which I need gold if I want to purchase.. as a newer player to the server, and a casual, it actually feels a waste of my time to PvP all night, even though I thoroughly enjoy the fights..

Honestly I'd think non-casuals would be excited to have more players PvP'n... More players = more fights = more fun..

Yeah, why would I want to spend my time gaining a bunch of gold and valuable in-game items when I can get chased by 4 mages spamming expl potions?

I also think you're wrong with the last sentence, and I can prove it: if every player who participated in PvP for one hour was guaranteed a relic, how many do you think would do it? The answer: all of them. It's a no-brainer. UOF actually has somewhat of an economy, and players who don't PvP are striving for something else. The key is lessening the reward (or chance to obtain) and extending the span of time.

It doesn't, of course. It can be like it is now, with a significant portion of the population not participating in PvP.

If the word ''relic" bothers you, make it gold. Lots of gold. It'll have the same effect, and will likely bother you just as much.

It lessed world PvP by shifting everyone into battlegrounds, which was the design. World PvP (or ganking someone who wasn't paying attention) was still out there in full force.

I've made my views on UOF PvP clear over the years: there shouldn't be one viable mage PvP build. Period. Just like it used to be: there were at least three different kinds of viable mages. And it wouldn't be hard to fix, but I won't go into further detail unless you want that.

Course it will bother me just as much, though UOF has done a remarkable job managing the economy, there is still a ton of gold out there. The whole thing just seems wasted. Mythic has been trying to get the stale pvp scene happening for years (special weapons, artifacts and armors) without much success.
Get involved in pvp if that makes you happy. Pvm if that floats your boat. Hell, pk everyone if that gets your privates all tingling. I just don't see a reasonable chance that a "financial reward drop" or some special wearables as being the catalyst that changes some dudes play style.
