I saw it as the ultimate quest, to do something that I hadn’t seen undertaken before. In hindsight I clearly did not understand the supply side of uof’s Valorite runic hammer market. 4 months in with only 20 swings found and acquired, I changed strategies and converted alts/filled spare slots with as many 120 blacksmiths as I could, 13 at final count. Even raising (doubling) the market swing and bod price and hammering(pun intended) the forums/discord did not flush out that many more. In simple terms they are rare af, and rightly so. For any brave or foolish enough to take on something like this in the future, some info below.

Total time - 18 months
Total aprx cost 250 - 300m
Total swings - 95
Total swings bought - 65 (over 10 partially/complete hammers)
Total swings crafted - 30
Total slayers - 2. (Both lessers, 1 in first 10 swings, 1 in second last 10)

Out of that cost, with reselling non-slayer blanks and bods, I estimate final cost to be about half the above, however the market is small for high end runics so it will still take some time recoup most of that.

Many would argue the benefit is negligible in respect to cost in time and gold and I can’t entirely disagree. I certainly would not recommend the bod pulling portion, especially if you have a ‘balls out, go hard’ type of personality when It comes to self imposed missions that everyone thinks are crazy. 3 months of bodding and I found I was waking an hour earlier before work, taking time at lunch, racing home from work, and staying up til 11-12pm every night, just to maximise my bods pulled per day count. Not surprisingly this led to a major burnout period. After that 3 months I couldn’t even log my bodders in. I felt like my core means of relaxation and reality escape had become more of a job than my actual job. My solution after coming back was simply to stop bodding to avoid the chance of escalation, and it’s been more than 9 months since I’ve last pulled a bod. ( willing to hold bodders-anonymous meetings for any other players needing an intervention!)

Of course had luck been with me, it may have only cost a single swing, and the outcome could have been a more desirable super slayer. Regardless each attempted swing until that last slayer message displayed upon crafting was exciting as hell. With the outcome being a unique artefact brought into being. Demons are one of my most favourite mobs, and the list of alternate mobs demon dismissal affects make it the only lesser i was willing to stop at. This as a side benefit to a godly pvp weapon and I feel like I can finally put this quest to bed. Thanks to all the bod guys and girls and traders who helped me along the way, Eppy for not nerfing the val runic slayer craft chance halfway through, and Shane for adding the first weapon property listed. See y’all out there :)

THAT SPEAR! THAT QUEST! Truly impressive and inspiring. Now you have an item second to none, and if I see you walking down the Abyss Pass as the badass you are, I'll just move to one side and slow clap you until you disappear in the horizon.
