Sallos?

So because one person who is and I say this loosely (decent) on both clients that some how negates what I said?

Remember I said 90% so I made sure to leave myself some room for the one or two people this does not apply to.

I actually like sallos, I think it has a lot of great features, but these features are crutches that pvpers are now needing in order to pvp.

have you seen how dead the servers are when sallos is down? Pretty much the entire pvp community refuses to login unless it's available.

i.e. pre setting targets off screen so everybody can dump on the same person with out having to actually skillfully target the correct player, same goes for target closest.

I am not hating saying it's a bad thing, but pretty much most of the players that are considered to be "good" now, would have got their shit pushed in if they were pvping before sallos was available.

Ummm.. nobody ever really does set targets while offscreen in 2018?! Most of it is target closest pvp (group fights) and razor/steam are just as guilty in that department.. as for “pushed it in before sallos was available”.. so they would have sucked back in 2004? Lawl!

The reason for this more than anything (it is for me at least) is the fact that the game runs so much smoother and looks so much better on Sallos. Going back to a 14FPS client after playing at 60+FPS is like watching a slideshow. So much so that I (and many others) even prefer to PVM on Sallos even though it comes with major disadvantages in doing so.

I would play on Sallos without sticky bars or without being able to target offscreen. I am not naive enough to say that Sallos doesn't have some clear advantages (mainly those two I mentioned), but I think people greatly exaggerate how much of an effect it has in PVP. For every one thing that Sallos can do that UOS cannot I can name 5 things that Sallos cannot do that UOS can.

Ye but pulling bars easier, sticky bars and pre targeting offscreen worth more than all advantages of steam times 10. For dexxer-pvp steam is probably even slightly better but for group pvp with mages sallos is defenetly a big advantage. Its not about the quantitiy of advantages/disadvantages but about their weight.

Lets say you have two racing cars:

Car one has 10 things better than car two. Better tyre, better aerodynamic etc. But car two will still win the race if the motor is ten times stronger even tho it has only this one advantage.

Stop,

Everybody still targets off screen and if you say other wise you're flat out lying LOL.

And sallos was not a legal client in 2004, so if you needed to cheat back then to be any good at pvp my point still stands.

I don't use Sallos, I'm a Steam user - but the comment above makes more sense out of anything that's been said in my eyes. There is so much that Steam can do, that Sallos cannot, they each have pros/cons of the 3 3rd party clients...

Slide show? Oh you mean like playing with lock step which MOST sallos users already do LOL.

And UOS can automate pvp, but I would put those players in the same category as sallos players.

If you need automated scripts to pvp you are just as much of a scrub as someone who needs to use all the clear advantages sallos offers.

Hell half the videos I see are of moded clients, it's almost like people think this game is so hard they have to try and do every little thing possible to dumb it down.

I mean jesus christ this is a sandbox game that came out when most of you were in diapers, why over complicate something that's already so simple.

No, I mean the framerate in which the game plays. Having everything on the screen refresh 60 times every second looks so much more modern and better than a game only updating the screen 14 times every second (which is what the normal UO client is restricted to). Not sure what playing with lockstep has to do with the FPS, but for the record I prefer to play with lockstep off. Also, if you have the time, look at how many times in my videos that I preset my target while they are offscreen. I think people greatly exaggerate how much this is used. Target closest, which any assistant or even the client itself has built in, is used 10x more. I'd say the same is true for most other videos I have seen from other players.

If you think the average age here isn't late 20s - early 30s you're sadly mistaken. You aren't some special OG.

I haven't played this server, but I can only assume a vast majority came from uoforever and everybody used that option when I played and it was gay as shit.

I put some details about the difference between the clients back in 2015 here: https://uoforum.com/threads/sallos-or-steam-must-be-removed.71916/page-4#post-532493

For the lazy, below is an copy-n-paste:

Sallos:
Pros:
- Smooth graphics and animations
- smart targeting that works
- setting targets offscreen
- quick grab
- pretty nice hotkey map
- nice map (not as good as UOS)
- animations are accurate (i.e. Exp pot actually lands on a player when it explodes)
- Targeting cursors for AOE Spells
- Sticky bars

Cons:
- Basic macro capability (similar to uo built in macros)
- Doesn't have updated art library (means newer UO art and mobs do not show)
- Buggy in a lot of ways
- Difficult to configure
- No profiles

Razor
Pros:
- Easy to configure
- Processes actions/macros fast
- Reads Journals that UOS cannot
- Has scavenger
- Dress actions work good
- Profiles

Cons:
- Buggy with newer versions of Windows
- Hard to update macros
- Macro engine not as good as UOSteam
- Targeting actions are fairly basic
- Uses standard UO graphics
- Basic map

UOSteam
Pros:
- Macro engine is robust
- Stable in all versions of Windows
- Best map features
- Scavenger
- Spell Grid
- Profiles
- Best Targeting features (although you cannot set off screen targets)

Cons:
- Macros are hard to make
- Some actions are slower than other clients
- Uses standard UO graphics
- Smart targeting system is fairly bad

Tell me 5 things which are better on steam than on sallos for mage pvp.

here are the things which are better on sallos.

- smart targeting that works
- setting targets offscreen
- quick grab
- pretty nice hotkey map
- animations are accurate (i.e. Exp pot actually lands on a player when it explodes)
- Targeting cursors for AOE Spells
- Sticky bars
- easier to grab bars
- more fps which also helps a lot in pvp for me
- faster response time

Advantages of steam for mage pvp:

--You can see guild members on your map (pretty useless since you will party up before fighting and then see them on sallos as well)
- You can heal with bandis while holding a spell or being (and staying) hidden (no one would seriously change this for any one of those: sticky bars, easier to bull bars, pre targeting off screen, more fps) but usefull especially for dexxers with hiding. This one has nothing to do with steam. In fact u must use the bandageself of the client, the steam command will break the spell and reveal (steam is no client).
- pot thowing macros (only uselfull for dexxers, doesnt work well with spell timings for alchy mages)
- all other macros are more or less only usefull for dexxers
- you can run very very slighty faster if your cpu is bad cause the sallos code puts more load on your cpu. For my cpu the speed is the same.

Thats it. No one would exchange all steam advantages for only one of sallos for mage pvp. Imagine you would have to pull the bars again all the time and on steam its basically impossible to pull bars compared to sallos where a drunken monkey can pull all bars within a second. ;-)

Don't get me wong here. Steam + classic client is basically the better choice for everything other than (group) mage pvp. But for this Sallos is undoubtfully better.

edit: btw you can use a tool which gives you significantly more fps for the classic client (steam, razor) and smart targeting actually works for me on steam but you have to cast the first heal manually then it starts working. For sallos you can again pretarget while casting the gh and smart last target works instantly.

You haven't played on uof but you've posted 157 messages and you're calling other people pathetic?

Without a doubt you run faster on UOS than you do on Sallos regardless of how fast your PC is. It may not look like it, but you do end up losing tiles. This is something I have tested many times.

Another huge disadvantage of using Sallos (as I can't credit it as an advantage of UOS/Razor as it has nothing to do with the assistant) is that you lose 2-3 tiles of targeting range. Meaning at certain distances you are unable to cast spells/throw pots on targets while you absolutely can on the regular client.

Again, I think people over-exaggerate how useful the bar pulling/sticky bars/offscreen targeting is. Look at any video and for the most part you will see much more "target closest" than anything (which you can do even better on UOS/Razor).

I have tried the tool you are talking about and it was not only very buggy, but also made the game look hideous. It increased the running speed animation and a few other things, but the background would jitter and the animations looked god awful. I tried it when it was first released and then an updated version of it about a year later. Orion is the only client I have found that I would bother trying to switch to, and would if it was a little less buggy and added some core features.

I use sallos also for pvm, it just looks better.

If only they would fix that damn auto open corpse which gets bugged after meditating....
