How do i do it? Just made a thief at the guildmaster in Bucs den now what?

you need either a certain amount of skill or game time, its something like 80/80 hide steal, or steal snoop? or else you need a week old char..

Character needs to be a week old and have 80 or higher skill of stealing. Once you have theses two things, you can say: <npc name> join
Then you will be in thieves after you pay the amount he asks ( I think it's like 500gp??). You will then no longer be able to call guards and can not give murder counts out. Instead, you will be then allowed to steal from players and use disguise kits.

I think that you must also have 48 hours in game play time

1 week old char, 48 hours login, 60 stealing skill.. Make sure you stock up on countless supplies of aspirin, needle and thread and Valium then you will be welcomed to Guard wack city, where npcs have X-ray vision and streets are unclean.. yeah..

Uhhhh..
You can still call guards as long as you are blue. You also have no issue calling guards on other normal circumstances.

So only permanent grey can't call guards?

If your perma, you are free game unfortunately. A rule of thumb is to always kill yourself before you log, saving you from embarrassment later

When I try to steal from players it says 'You need to be in the thieves guild to steal from other players.' How am I supposed to build my skill to 60 if I can't steal?

Did you know that thiefs that are not in militia can't steal from militia players? Kinda nice but at the same time destroys the idea of old school stealth thiefs since you are forced to be in militia to steal and then your enemies can track you down even you are hiding/stealthing.. and that sucks honestly!
