Many years ago... Lucius stood in front of the table that was covered in bottles containing reagents, poisons, insects and various other ingredients commonly found in the household of a practicing wizard. His dark blonde hair was disheveled and dirty; his face, unshaven. He was tall and thin, much thinner than he should be. Since being cast from Sorcerer's Guild in Moonglow for one too many mishaps, he found the abandoned flat underneath the icy dungeon west of Wrong and made it his home. It was cold but the red brick managed to hold the heat of the fireplace well enough. He walked to the center of the pentagram he drew in the blood of the white wyrm that lived above in the dungeon. Repeating the same chant over and over, he sprinkled a bit of each potion in the middle. Turning a bit too clumsily, one of the potions fell from his hand and crashed to the ground, spilling its contents into the middle of the pentagram. The ground shook and a red mist started to rise from the center of blood drawing. Lucius fell back against the wall, knowing this could be his greatest mishap of all. Out from the mist, great ice fiends began to emerge. It wasn't long until they found the poor, inept sorcerer and devoured him. The portal opened into the deepest depths of the dungeon above and remained that way indefinitely, with the ice fiends making Lucius' former home their own. Today... Relvinian, a powerful but over zealous mage, created the Hedge Maze to keep nosy people at bay and allow him the privacy he needed to conduct his experiments. Relvinian believed he could tame daemons to be used like slaves capable of performing menial tasks and provide labor. He failed, and daemons soon overran the Hedge Maze. Relvinian managed to escape the maze and went into hiding where he spent his days laboring over scrolls and books. There, he learned of great beasts called Ice Fiends, daemons that lived in the Ice Dungeon that were quite strong, magical and not very bright. His plan was to get the ice fiends to the maze where they would kill the lesser daemons and then, this time, he was sure his experiment would be successful and he would devise himself an army of the beasts to guard and rebuild his home inside the Hedge Maze. But getting the large, icy beasts from the dungeon posed a problem for Relvinian. Reading through an old book about the dungeon Ice, he read the tale of Lucius. While it was likely just a story created to keep people from the dungeon, Relvinian's curiosity got the better of him. “It's all true,” he said quietly, using a potion to allow him to walk undetected through the old flat. There in the middle was the red portal, and before him stood an ice fiend. Relvinian returned to the Hedge Maze and made his way to his old home, dodging the daemons using what was left of the invisibility potion but time was of the utmost essence. He didn't have much of the potion left. He would create a new portal to the one underneath the dungeon, bringing the ice fiends to him through a magical crystal orb. He went about his plan quickly. Placing the great glowing orb in the middle of the maze, he repeated the same chant Lucius said so long ago. “Vas rel por. Kal Zen. Vas rel por. Kal Zen....” But like poor Lucius, Relvinian's plan also went awry. Through the great glowing orb came forth every creature, monster, and daemon living in Ice Dungeon, each more deadly than the next. An arch ice fiend turned to Relvinian, and with his icy breath, froze Relvinian where he stood.
