Like runes you mark these stones are also markable but with the spell Gate Travel. However one use only. You would bury the stone to open a gate from your location to the marked location. Depending on the skill of the mage who marks it will determine the stability (the length of time the gate is open). This giving non-mages the ability to gate. If a mage can create food I'm pretty sure a mage could create moonstone... Just one of my random ideas. Thanks.
