Deathcam

No threads here yet related to Deathcam and according to search results, so here is the Deathcam thread for ya.

I personally find it breaking the freedom, which has been playing the key role in taking Ultima Online to where its today. At the same time I feel like its pushing UO forward in a positive way and really making new players interested in the game. Its somehow something inspiratively new to the game. So... personally I have kind of mixed feelings about Deathcam.

The guild on the other hand said its funny and clever idea and the first thing was "should we go to loot them?" before knowing its delay. That would be awesome regarding AFK macroers. Delay would probably not harm that. It made the guild feel the energy again.

On IRC there was a discussion related to Deathcam that what if it will ruin champ spawns, IDOCs will be revealed and such. Good thing is that its increasing world PvP more and its bringing players together as seeing people die and then coming to help them. If not Chaos.

So.. what is your opinion about Deathcam?

What is deathcam?

When you see a live stream @ forums, you'll find Deathcam there. Its a cam that is searching for dead players from all around UO world. When cam spots one, it will show it live on that Twitch stream with a delay.

On one hand I don't like it because it gives away a lot of information about a player and their habits.

On the other hand I like that it gives away a lot of information about a player and their habits.

Hrmmm. Wash.

There is an inherent issue with the deathcam and revealing locations other players don't know about. We could code around champ spawns but we can't with idocs. This means we will have to weigh the pros and cons of the deathcam in the coming weeks.

What about rare spawns/tamables? They are static but they are all over the damn place. IDOCs are impossible but what about other POI such as these?

A lot of shaky ground here.

You cant do a distance check for a house within screen distance and if there is then check the decay status before moving the cam? Maybe it is too computationally expensive? If someone dies out of sight of the idoc that would be fine I would think.

Deathcam that ignores certain deaths.

Might as well make it only view afk macroers :)

Can we have it so it doesn't show my house if I die in it? I don't want people knowing where I live.

Kinda unfortunate to have to disable it. Idoc-wise, I'd be 100% in agreeance. Since those are spuratic/take effort on the part of the searchers.

But tameables should be a non-factor. Everyone and their mother knows WHERE they spawn, the times are the lesser known.
And rares... Idk anything about these or their locations. I thought they were mostly in towns, so death wouldn't really be on the table. But again, I don't know shit about these, so can't take my word for shit on that front lol

Death cam has already got us more players to play at UOF, just by only streaming straight for 2 days.

This is not an exaggeration as I have seen people post in the stream chat asking for the shard information.

I guess we can also point out the following:
Why should the same idoc guilds get every idoc.
Why should the same champ spawn guilds get every champ.

So far this has been more positive than anything. I'd personally like to see IDOC loot more spread out instead of the same main idocers getting unreal wealthy time and time again.

Of course those people are going to be upset that they don't get all the loot though, but all it does is 100% promote activity on the server, which is nothing but a GREAT thing.

Also think about the newbies that join, this gives them a great chance to see some end-gameplay and other things they can eventually adventure into on Ultima Online Forever

I can see where idocers are coming from but here is what we have witnessed with a lot of these guilds:

1) They completely control the idoc and get all the loot.
2) The place an empty plot on the idoc location.
3) They make multiple accounts with vpns to do this.

I am not saying all idocers do this. However, we have had to punish two of the big idocing guilds for having multiple accounts so they could place empty plots.

I think it's a scale/scope issue more than anything. Too many houses and constant fluctuations of states of decay.

I agree there should never be 100% control over rares and tamables. That has actually been a major point of contension between a select few players and guilds lately.

However, some players do work hard to gain that information and it would be a shame to give it up over something as silly as a death cam.

But then again I like that any newbie can get a timer/location (possibly) if someone fucks up and dies in that spot. Because you do have to fuck up to get on the deathcam.

Again, another tricky/fine line situation. UO is ripe with them.

On that note.... That fact that spawn timers aren't completely random is ridicules. ;)
