85 str for a dexer?

Ok so I made a scribe macer and I figured having GM magery it would be handy if i could cast 8th circle spells for deamons and EVs etc and a bit more healing power.

So I did 85 str 85 dex 55 int

Now some people I've talked to say I loose a damage bonus not having 100 str.

Does anyone know how its worked out on this shard?

Incidentally 85 str gives me 92hp apparently, I thought HP was directly linked to str so 85 str would give 85 HP.

100str-90dex-35int
slam dex and str pots. Its a really solid pvp build, i wouldn't use it for farming personally. Inscrib dexxers give my alchy stun mage fits

you just want the 35int for a reflect, and a few gheals for you or pvp partner. I would bring xplo pots with you, great for interrupts and an extra 10 dmg

Here is the reference on how STR factors in: http://web.archive.org/web/20010224182647/http://uo.stratics.com/

Formula is: STR / 5

Thanks for the answers guys but I am still in the dark :(

:D that link took me to a list of news links.

Ahh hate to break it to you but wth does STR/5 mean Haly? Is it my total strength divided by 5?

How many % DMG am I loosing with 85 STR?

And Why do I get 92 HP with 85 STR?

Sorry, i always forget that the old stratics site uses frames. Here is the direct link to the page: http://web.archive.org/web/20010306112420/http://uo.stratics.com/combat.shtml

Strength is divided by five to determine the strength bonus. So at 100 Strength, you receive a 20% bonus. At 85 Strength, you receive a 17% bonus.

To answer your other question about HP. In the old (pre UOR) days, HP was determined directly with a 1:1 relationship to strength. But during UOR, the formula was changed to assist in different types of template builds. The formula to determine HP is now: (Strength / 2) + 50

FORMULA: STR % Bonus= STR ÷ 5
STR % Bonus to Damage
10 +2%

40 +8%
50 +10%
60 +12%
70 +14%
80 +16%
90 +18%

Curious how legit this page is, the AR portion is not correct.

This is one of the things I love about UO, so many things have been altered over the years that nobody can really be sure of anything.

Its all a bit of a mystery!!

EDIT

Dang hally just poured water over the mystery :cry

And Hally are the parry calculations on that page correct for this server?

And does dex affect parry?

I don't think they are, but I have never looked into parry and the Dev Staff only releases so much information on mechanics. I do know that at the begginning of 2014, there was a boost given to parry, which you can read about in the patch notes (maybe Patch 2 or 3?).

Well after a bit of trawling I found this:

  • Parrying has been buffed. The formula for determining the damage negated when an attack is parried was wrong. It was ( m.Skills[SkillName.Parry].Value * ar ) / 200.0 ) + 1.0 to determine the armor rating of the shield. This means that if you had 30 AR from your shield, it would return an effective armor rating of 16. If the weapon being parried was a bow, you would get 16 damage reduction and if it was a melee weapon, you would get 8. However, according to stratics, damage reduction should be AR of shield against archery and AR/2 for melee. This means that the archery reduction should be 30 and melee should be 16.
  • Parrying 100% damage reduction lowered to 15% (down from 25%) to compensate for parrying buff.

As you can guess I have no idea what it says haha.

So can a kind soul help me once more and dumb it down please? (sorry Haly for being a nuisance)

Also does dex have any effect on parry?
