How to hide and use provo?

So, I'm provoking a couple of mobs who end up fighting and along comes a not-so-friendly red player....I see his name hit th edge of the screen and reach for my hide button....skill cannot be used at this time, or some such.

Do I have to move away from the provoked mobs first before I can hide?

I haven't literally tested it but from what I've seen if you're targeted within 6-8 tiles you're in a fight and cant hide. If you *just* provoked then by default you are not targeted anymore. Often times you'll be re-targeted but the mobs will stay engaged or reengage while you are also targeted and thus cannot hide. If you back away a bit and hide you're good, or invis and hide. Also if you attack them while attacking each other you cannot hide.

What i do is as soon as u prpvoke them tab in and out of war mode quicl
Kly and if u have gm hide u shoukd be able to hide right away.

After you provo, tab in and out of combat, then hide. Stay hidden while the mobs fight.

First of all, you have to wait about 10 sec after provoking to be able to hide (skill delay) -> otherwise you get "you must wait to perform another action"
Then if you get "You can't seem to be able to hide at this time" or similar, it means you're too near to the mobs, just walk some tiles away or break los:
-At 8 tiles away you can hide, and mobs are still onscreen.
- If there are walls it would be easier to hide by breaking line of sight
