Bowcraft/Fletching

Bowcraft (or Fletching as it is called) is a skill where a player uses Fletching Tools to create arrows, bolts, bows, and crossbows.

Crafting in the Britain Crafting Area will also have a chance to create "slayer" weapons. See the Slayer wiki for more details.

Only Skill Scrolls are available for this skill.

Training Method
0 - 40 Train at Britain NPC Bowyer
40 - 60 Craft Bows
60 - 80 Craft xBows
80 - GM Craft Heavy xBows.

In a previous edit it seems the method was 40-60, 60-gm with heavy xbows. However, you can no longer crafter heavy xbows under lvl 80.

can you repair them?
Yes. I have been using the same repond slayer bow for titans/ogre lords for about a month or so. Just need to use powder of fortification every so often as overall durability gets lowered each time you repair the weapon.

I've been away from UO for a VERY long time - played when it first came out. When a GM makes a bow, does it get the craftsman's name "Made by ****" ? Is the 'slayer' bow the only "improved" bow?

If the bow is made exceptional - there is an option on the fletching menu to mark it with the smiths name or not.

Slayer bows are the only improved bow that can be made with regular wood. Lumberjacking skill can be raised to 120 - as it rises above GM you have a chance to harvest various different rare woods - crafting bows with these woods give you the chance to create bows with magical properties also.

I'd forgotten about the different kinds of wood - maple, oak, bloodwood, frostwood . . . others I guess.

Thinks for the reply - like I said, it's been a while. I played for a short time a few years back , but the game was so different. More is NOT always better! I'm looking forward to testing this out . . . If it's truly like it was in the beginning, I'll invite some other old UOers.

No. There are rare woods that are harvested by >gm lumberjack. Fletcher using these have a small chance at random magic properties - the max properties seem linked to the wood type.
