Best 3rd Part Software

Do any of them increase draw distance and/or improve frame smoothnes?

Sallos is popular for PvPers, it has smoother frames but can be a little complex to setup.

UOSteam is probably the most popular general purpose client now. It doesn't have any frame smoothness improvements but it has many nice features such as spell grid and a powerful macro system.

Razor is still used by a few die hard fans. There is nothing wrong with it as such, it just lacks the smoothness of Sallos or the power of UOSteam.

If you want the best of both worlds, I'd recommend having a couple of clients installed. One for Sallos, which requires a different set of art files. And one for UOSteam and Razor.

Orion is still in development and not officially supported as a client on UOF. I would only try this if you are feeling very adventurous.

I've heard that Orion's scripting system is even better than UOSteam's. I gave the client a shot and it seemed nice, but I was having some performance issues, such as my FPS randomly tanking and having somewhat low FPS with higher resolutions.

I am at a loss as to how to get UOSteam to work. Are there any guides out there? I was completely unable to get Orion to work, but it requires you match config data with whatever the server is running and I haven't a clue how to find that information.

I did get Sallos to work and so far it looks good. Gotta say though, it was a major pain in the ass. From broken, outdated links to find bits and pieces of info and files scattered across different posts, a major pain in the ass. There needs to be a sticky with ALL pertinent shard info and files that is regularly updated.

https://www.uoforum.com/wiki/index.php/Sallos That should have all the info. Let me know if anything is missing.

Razor for me. I know that UOSteam or Sallos gives you advantages over Razor users but I can't be bothered.
Used in the right way Razor is 1337 as phuk!

This right here... I will however add that I use steam myself cause I decided that I wanted to reduce my skill level by at least 80% and wanted to be like one of the cool kids. I even wear my baseball cap backwards when before I never had to wear one while using razor..

The shame..

I've played UO for 21 years and never used anything except Razor.... until today! Sallos is rad, if for nothing else the way it draws better.

No matter the draw distance you will still see the same active area. Sallos will fill in the map no matter the game window size but you will notice players or mobs will only be shown withiin a certain distance to your character. the other clients will have black corners and wont fill in that area outside the active limits very well.

what was happening when you tried to get steam working? i just installed it on my new laptop. i did have to roll back the very last intel graphics driver update because of the "open icl driver not found" issue.

I am aware the drawing distance is set, so dynamic items dont snap in until a certain range, but static items are rendered much further out than the vanilla client or with razor.

As far as UOSteam goes, absolutely nothing happens. I found it to be overly complicated in terms of how much you need to configure it. I am not even sure which config data to input.

Steam ain't that difficult to set up, pretty much the same amount of work as Razor, the difficulty comes when you want to use scripts/macros which may need the odd change to suit what you want to do with it. Just a little taster with what you can do with Steam :

Set a key to auto-open backpacks when you get into range.
Set a key to automatically search a backup for a specific item to steal, these items can be buried within other bags inside the pack.
Set a list of items you want to steal in a 'pushlist'. You get the item identification code by using object inspector, click an item and it brings up a nice little gump which describes the item. You get the ID, stick it into a list and your super powerful over 90 billion trillion zillion auto-stealing script will happily rip it from their pack and put it into yours. It's a right beast at champion spawns, happily and greedily searching through packs which decide to rub passed you when they are looking to escape from a flood of thieves. It is not fully automatic, you still need to press a button but I guess that could be changed so it does fully automate the process.. Awesome right? *Hangs himself*

Yessss.... It definitely makes sense that society has followed the lead of the dumbing down experience, from AAA games with fancy pants graphics and automated systems which play the game for you. Sky-net is upon us people, the day of skill and real love has become obsolete, The Walking Dead has unfolded with people walking in front of busses while their face is buried in their smart phone is now the reality that many consider as progress...

Ahem.

My home network is called Skynet. :)

Regarding UOSteam, it seem to be OP in all ways if used in the "correct" way. Kind of feels like cheating.

On the other hand, used in the right way, Razor cna be extremely powerfull too. I used to build quite advanced macros and one guy I know made a small UO fortune by selling Razor macros for almost anything. As long as you can think within the Razor framework and use it to it's limits, there are not much limits. :)

It is cheating in a sense, I never use it because it feels unfair. The opposite side of the coin however, is that there are scripts in place to counter these so it balances things out a little. Whatever happened to the days of manual snooping, manual stealing where stealing something felt like a monumental achievement...
