Greetings once again to my fellow UOF players.

I recently GMed Blacksmith and would like to share with you my method.

First, you need to gather a few items:

    1. A recall rune to the Blacksmith Area in Brit
    2. A recall rune to the Blacksmith Area in the Orc Dungeon
    3. A recall rune to the bank
    4. 32,000 ingots (give or take, depending on character staying fed)
    5. Food for character

Now of course you want to start this character with 50 smith / 50 tinkering
Buy magery and mining up to 50
GM Mining before you start working smith, and get magery to at least 65

    The technique is quite simple.
Carry 500-700 ingots to the orc dungeon, make your items, and then recall to brit to smelt.
The dungeon gives you better gains skill wise, and the brit smith area gives you better return on smelting.
You only want to run with 500-700 ingots because PKs visit there 3-4 times a day. And after this post goes live, you can expect to see them a little more often.

Now there are other threads and posts out there that tell you want to make at what level for the best gains and all that jazz.
But personally, running the macro a certain way and leaving it there and not bouncing back and forth only costs you about 300-500 ingots from 50-GM
That's right. All that bouncing around making 15 different things and resetting macros only saves you 300-500 ingots.
    So not a big deal.

Here is my guide to what to make:
    50-65 Short Spears (or katanas)
    65-85 Spears
    85-GM Plate Gorgets

Now, a bunch of people are going to disagree. And that suits me fine. But this is what I did and I GMed Smith in a total of 6 hours and used less that 30,000 but lost about 2k to PKers.

    Have fun ladies and gentlemen!

I took 16k ings and 4 bs scrolls....Made shortspears till 96 and ate 4 scrolls. Did all in orc dungeon . I did it differently I brought 2500 ingots and hid next to forge and smelted them as I crafted. You could just bring like 1000, when you are resmelting it they go a long while. And less recalling means less trouble with pks/orcs. I didnt use a mask. I did it in about 4 hours. Ingots are about 10k per 1k...i got mine for 8 each so 16k x 8 per = 128k
4 blacksmith ss were 9k each and that makes a total of 36k
If i bought 30k that would be 16k more ingots so on average of 10 thats 160k, minus 40k max for the bs ss, so thats 120k extra you are paying and wasting a lot of extra time. So save yourself some time, and about 120k and do it the smart way. You need hiding if you plan to craft slayers. Blacksmith ss sell for 5-10k usually and they are easy to find. With that extra 120k you could get a 105 ps and 5 bs ss, and still have some left over to make enough slayers to make a good amount your $$$ back.

Not a bad way to do it. But basically mine is a guide for folks who don't have skill scrolls

This is basically what I did -- the orc dungeon forge is definitely the place to go for raising skill. It helps to have hiding -- just macro it up to 60 or 70 and it will work most of the time (even if you don't plan on keeping it once you GM blacksmith). If you are hidden at the forge, you can still craft & smelt ore without going out of hiding. I've seen reds run right by me as I run my macros.

I did the same - crafted and smelted at an orc forge - short spears all the way. 14k ingots from 50 to 96 in just over 3 hours - scrolled the rest.

Strange... Some swear by stay well fed - I never did. Made short spears constantly. Do you have skills pointing down to allow gains?

Not sure why you have burned through so many ingots - as you smithing skill should allow a decent return on re smelting. As for the time it is taking, what macro are you using to train?

I optimized mine to have the shortest delays possible for my connection.

    Use Tongs
    Make last (short spear)
Smelt spear if found in pack

    then loop

waiting for the gumps to appear and the smelting pause I just played around with until I had it running as fast as possible without error.

yeah, I used pretty much the same macro. No big deal, I GMed last night.. want to say i used around 18k ingots.. things started to pick up around 83-84.. and i just decided to scroll the last 3 points.

Going to add to this...Blacksmith SS have been scarce especially at an 8k price (some guy trying to actually get 18k for them) so I was only able to scrap up 16 of them.

I did Short Spears to 96
    Plate Gorgets 96-100
    Gloves 100-103
    Arms 103-104

It should be at no point in this rotation did I ever use more than 1k ingots for 1 full point of gain, which roughly equates to 8k gold. I'm guessing with arms you could get at least 2-3 more points like this.

    Hi guys,
i have a question for you, i'm at 84 blacksmith and i used 10k iron. How you reach 96 with 10k iron??
Have i use the tongs or smith hammer?? Is better with tongs?
After that i go to britain camp for smelt.
    What i'm wrong????

I just GMed smith and used about 20k. Short spears were 100% success at 95.3 (weird number) and wouldn't gain.

Switched to plate gorget and ate 3 scrolls.

Here is the steam macro I used if it's of any interest to someone (This craft spears and smelt) :

    usetype 0xfbb
    waitforgump 0x38920abd 15000
    replygump 0x38920abd 50
    waitforgump 0x38920abd 15000
    replygump 0x38920abd 16
    waitforgump 0x38920abd 15000
    pause 1000
    if findtype 0x1403 'any' 'backpack'
    usetype 0xfbb
    waitforgump 0x38920abd 15000
    replygump 0x38920abd 14
    waitfortarget 15000
    targettype 0x1403
    waitforgump 0x38920abd 15000
    pause 1000
    endif

Confirmed in July of 2018. Works the same.

I decided to smelt in Orc Cave too to make process more afk. Hiding is essential to avoid death. Not even killed once.

1500 inglots, 10 smith hammers and Recall runes to bank and to Orc Cave.

Here is my script. It is not idiot proof and you need to recall for more ingots or smith hammers but still useful. It will smelt if you are overloaded or have no enough ingots.

    For Short spears:

    if counttype 0x1bf2 'any' 'backpack' > 6

    usetype 0x13e3

    waitforgump 0x38920abd 15000

    replygump 0x38920abd 21

    pause 2000

    endif

    if counttype 0x1bf2 'any' 'backpack' < 6

    usetype 0x13e3

    waitforgump 0x38920abd 15000

    replygump 0x38920abd 14

    waitfortarget 15000

    targettype 0x1403

    pause 2000

    endif

    while weight > 380

    usetype 0x13e3

    waitforgump 0x38920abd 15000

    replygump 0x38920abd 14

    waitfortarget 15000

    targettype 0x1403

    pause 2000

    endwhile

AND for 95 skill and more:

    if counttype 0x1bf2 'any' 'backpack' > 10

    usetype 0x13e3

    waitforgump 0x38920abd 15000

    replygump 0x38920abd 21

    pause 2000

    endif

    if counttype 0x1bf2 'any' 'backpack' < 10

    usetype 0x13e3

    waitforgump 0x38920abd 15000

    replygump 0x38920abd 14

    waitfortarget 15000

    targettype 0x1413

    pause 2000

    endif

    while weight > 380

    usetype 0x13e3

    waitforgump 0x38920abd 15000

    replygump 0x38920abd 14

    waitfortarget 15000

    targettype 0x1413

    pause 2000

    endwhile

    And me during the process:
