Request: PVP Guide

Hello!

I've been searching for some clues regarding basic PVP, and survival. I'm not interesting at this point of attacking back, just searching increasing survival time.

Yesterday, I just got killed by explosion/energy bolt in like 2 seconds, and was wondering what I could do to prevent this. Got hit by explosion, tried to recall, fizzled, energy bolt, dead.

I've been looking at the guide "How to survive an attack", but find it a bit incomplete when it comes to when the attack actually happens.

Is there anything that I could do? Or if it happens that a PK enters my screens, its done, I'm dead (trolls, begone :p )

I'm a provo/archer, and do not have resist spell, so I guess it is part of the problem. I do have hiding, and wonder if it's enough?

Any help would be appreciated, if someone could point me to an existing guide, it would be awesome. ( There used to be one on this forum, mentioned in "How to survive an attack", it does not seem to exist anymore)

How to farm safely? It begins with preparation.

Before heading out to farm make sure you have:

-armor (both for monsters and PKs),
-potions (total refreshes, cures, and heals are a must, the others not so much),
-trapped pouches ON A HOTKEY (setup UseOnce. pop to stop paralyze).

Now that you're fully stocked (and assuming you use those items correctly) you should be able to escape every time unless were talking numbers of 4+

See a red name? Recall. Don't get it off in time? Don't panic. Think about your character.

If you have wrestling/weapon skill equip the weapon to stop a dexer from 100% striking you.

Move away while using any necessary potions, and applying a bandage if you have healing.

Now before we try to recall, cast PROTECTION. It is a level TWO spell and quick to cast. Put protection on and then Recall out.

Protection helps to stop interrupts. It's quicker than recall. Since it is a level 2 spell you can ALWAYS cast Protection without being interrupted. So you apply that first, then recall out.

If you're being magic arrow spammed, just continue to walk while drinking potions/bandages and Mini Healing or G Healing when necessary, then either Recall/Protection when you can.

That should cover most basic scenarios.

Other things to remember:

Reflect/Protect/Reactive Armor can all work on the same slot. Once applied, the other 2 will not work until the first has been cleared. There could be situations when RA or MR work better for escaping than Protection.

ARCH Protection is another good spell in a clutch situation vs a dexer, adding about 13 AR. If you decide to stay and fight a dexer, apply this spell for some extra AR.

Main thing is DON'T PANIC. Most PKs here are fairly easy to escape from. I'm newish here and I rarely die when farming.

My last death I remember was in Deceit earlier two POWER reds chased me. I did everything correct. Put on Protection. But messed up by forgetting the No-Recall spots in Deceit.

I wasn't so much panicking, but not thinking ahead. And ran into a dead end, couldnt cast recall and died. Protection didnt help much there.

Oh one last thought for now. I advise hunting with a 1 handed weapon for easier chugging, both vs monsters/PKs.

Whenever you get flamestriked by a monster just chug one so a red doesnt fly in and hit you.

Hey thanks a lot for the help!

I think I was not well prepared enough. I used to think that having less equipment (armor and potions for example) was better. If I die, I don't lose much. But now that I think about it, I was preparing for death with that strategy hehe.

I'll follow your advises and see where it leads me.

More thoughts. Beware all Red names.

Sometimes since im a bit more confident in my ability, ill let a red actually come in for a bit, or toy around and fight. Sometimes I think "i wonder if he will attack?" he will. They do. Always assume the worst.

However do NOT TRUST THE BLUES. They are probably worse. They will flamestrike/crossbow you when you are low. Ninja your items. Train mobs onto you and hide. Scout for reds. And just generally be a pain.

Most things can be automated. Like a restock key to grab regs/empty potions/bandies from there its just a matter of clicking the kegs and adding some pouches to trap.

I have a chest just full of trapped pouches at my house for easy access.

If you're not gearing up when you go out simply put you are going to die. Whether from a PK, or when 6 monsters trap you in and you have no total refresh pots.

Some common combos would be something like.

Cast Explo off screen --> Red runs in. You're low. He casts it. Then does something like stun punch/paralyze/another Explosion and continues to unload. Explosion potions will be weaved in there too.

Just recall as soon as you see the name. If he starts to get spells off, remember you can always cast something like Weaken/Clumsy/Magic Arrow to interrupt.
Example:

Youre pretty much full hp. Red runs in with Explo pre casted and drops it on you and starts casting Explo with a purple potion. Cast weaken. Interrupt his spell. Walk away from the potion throw range, drink a heal pot/bandage the first pre-casted explosion, then either recall or Protection then recal.

I've always wondered about how the RA,MR,Protect spells worked. Sometimes after I know for certain that the spell ran out , it says it won't adhere to me at this time. Majority of my pvm is consistent of spell casters, while MR is on and I see a red, well I can't cast protect against them and just hope I get the jump first to Recall.

You can onlyhave one on at a time. Cast disepel on yourself to remove any of them and recast desired one

Also MR and RA dont ru out unless people or mobs hits you with whatever and drop them. Protection i dont think runs out till you take so much damage from any source and there is a cooldown between uses so u cant just spam them
 
I think this is all useles.
Honestly, i am very disapointed with PVP system on this server: who ever spams more explosion potions wins. Period.
And it takes only one brain cell to click a throw explosion macro.
Maybe you should add a cool down on explosion potions. Otherwise, there is no variety on successful templates.
You either have an alchemist spamming explosion potions, or you lose.

If anyone thinks different and believes there is a way to counter attack explosion potions, please enlighten me.

explo pot in the best case ever can deal 25 damage every 5 seconds, you can spam 15 hp mini heal every 1,5 second

better, cause you can manage bandage while on run with timer, plus heal pots if you manage both well you can run ten time more than the number of explo pots of your enemy

Well, I still haven't trained my alchy. I started on this server 3 weeks ago. So I have no healing potions.
I tried to run like hell tho, and the bandages apply automatically (I made a UOSteam macro for that).
Still I died. And from potions only, because the PK didn't even get close to strike me with his weapon.
Also, I think he might have trowed more than one potion every 5 secs. I'll pay further attention on that, but if there is no cooldown between potions, you can spam them very quickly, and a nice macro can ensure they are thrown on you on the last second.
When I train my alchy, I'll experiment with explosion potions.

1) ExploPots have no deley between two of them but there is a timer that start to 4, btw we can easly say 5 second each explo pots
2) Yes its true that he no need to stop or being near you
3) 25 damage MAX at 100 alchemy, that it means you can be hitten for 22 but mostly less cause a lot of peole use 80 or even 60 alchemy instead 100
4) Obviously you absolutly need GCure and GHeal pots, only bandages is not enought, maybe bandage is enought if you have magery to cure and heal with spell but then you need to stop to cast. Sincerly i never tested if its possible to run away from explo pots without cure/heal pots
5) heal pots no need alchemy to be used

Okay! I know all of that.
I started on this server for 3 weeks, but I played UOL for years (eons) in the past.
I am pretty sure he has a macro that waits until the last second to throw the potion, so when it reaches me, it explodes right away, which is exactly what I would do. So, if he gives me 20 hp damage, with 5 potions I am dead.
I know cure/heal potions are a MUST HAVE, if you wanna survive, and I know you don't need alchemy to use. But since I am still poor, I need an alchy to make them. I also know that you don't need alchy to throw explosion potions, and I also know that, if you do have alchemy, you get a bonus on all potions.
I have magery in my dexxer, but no evalut. So, it is just for bless, recall (gate) and stuff like that. I can't really rely on magery without evalut and without meditation during a fight. this is yet another reason for me to run around holding cure/heal (and even explosion/str/agy) potions.

Finally, my point is: maybe there should be a delay between throwing explosion potions. Like the delay on using heal potions (idk if this server implements it, but I think it does).

My point is: where is the ability on spamming explosion potions?
I created a character with magery and fencing. Full of tricks. In the past it would kick ass of anyone. With paralyze blow/lesser poison and an armed energy bolt I used to kick ass 1v1.
But with this explosion spamming, the only template I see is a success would be: fencing(sword)/tactics/anatomy/heal/alchemy/magery(or poison)
This way I can spam explosion potions with alchemy bonus. You can write a simple macro that uses 5 potions, waits a couple of seconds, and throw them in last target.
Where is the fight here? Here is the healing/poisoning/paralyzing/debuffing? Where is disturbing spells?
You are missing all the PvP fun by explosion spamming.
My suggestion is to insert a delay between using explosion potions. This way there is no way he can kill me without a fair fight.
Otherwise, whoever hits the spam explo macro fist, wins. :(
