Eliminate PKs

i also want to add that there are SO many Dungeons.. and most PKs (and I know wat I'm talking about, as I've been PKing in this game for 10 years +) are too lazy to check anything but the high traffic areas (shame5, deceit5, destard)

pretty sure this is not true.. I've been on this Server since day one, and if I wasn't simply too stoned back then, then you're not right! Reds were always allowed in town. Trammy Dungeons are also not a very good idea I guess...

Reds were not allowed in guard zones back then, I remember clearly when I first started, I had an NPC escort at the Britain moongate that got a red instantly guard whacked when the red tried to run into the moongate.

Also, if reds don't care about most of the dungeons then what's wrong with making one of them a non pvp dungeon?

I think a very interesting point was made here, that being the 3 accounts cause you to not "need" friends and alliances. That may not change on UOF, but I REALLY like that idea. Basically forcing characters to ally with various crafters, mages, tamers, provokers, poisoners, cartographers, fishers, stealthers, etc..

As far as PKs go.... I am not a very active PK, I prefer to farm the highest level mobs and events, but the thought a pk "could" come and get me is what makes it risky to farm certain areas (Deceit 5 daemons, Shame 5, MOTM) and that adds the "thrill" to the game. Even pking in groups (I'm in EQMS, yes we tend to do that) PvMers get away a lot of the time, even more so when I solo pk. It adds excitement to the game that an opponent could come and surprise me when I'm hunting for riches.

I do agree with @Young Star that a different server than UOF should be the destination for someone who doesn't want pking at all, but I would support a small section of the game being sanctioned off from pks (like orc fort south of Cove, or Despise top level).

I have never heard anyone say to me, "this is great, but I wish someone would come and kill me and take all my stuff". I've never heard anyone say "ahh man I just got pk'd, that was awesome!"

I have basically said both these things -- the first after I joined a Trammel server and started getting bored with how easy it was, and the second after a few pk experiences that were funny, creative or otherwise interesting (to be fair, those are pretty rare).

The game is just not as fun, or as addictive, without some level of risk and challenge. Having something to strive for and obstacles to overcome is what gets people hooked and keeps them coming back... unless the challenges seem insurmountable and the risks aren't balanced with enough reward, because that gets boring too.

The risk/reward balance for PvMers does seem to need some tweaking here. Having one small pk-free farming area would be a good solution that wouldn't disrupt the economy or eliminate/punish any play styles. Maybe make it like an RDA where people have to find it? Like Random Trammel Non-Adventure for those days when you're tired from work and just want to zone out and pile up some pixels.

The problem with adding an area where PK's can't come is that it defeats the whole purpose of this is a real world, a real sandbox. Monsters are in this area, but no one can come here who is red because of these imaginary boundaries. Also once one place is implemented people will just ask for more and more. Also why farm anywhere else, even if you only get 100 gold compared to 400, never dying or having to leave makes it way more profitable. It's basically the walmart approach, sell low margins, but never have to compete with anyone else because no one else can touch you. Eventually people will complain that the area is to crowded and will want more, the server will turn into Trammel.

The solution to this problem is simple. Make PKs have more risk to kill players. I still think there should be perma statloss and it shoudn't be based on buying back heads(if your offered), if you die, as a red past a certain count number, just like the old days, you lose stats. I played that way for years as a pk and it sucked when you died, but it made people band together to trick you, bait you, kill you. Which is what the world needed. I remember people forming parties together to hide in an area and gank me when I would run through a dungeon as a PK.

Instead you want something that you don't have to have any help or anyone bother you. That lessons the community on which UO foundation was originally built on.

A lot of people probably wont remember this, but when UO came about the internet itself was in its younger years. Most of the good information about UO was hard to find, and this created even more adventure and community. People had to join guilds to find out how to do things or where to go to find dungeons. I remember running around minoc mines and above it to the north and getting killed by PKs. It was one of the most exciting things I had ever experienced in my young life. That a person could come up and kill me. It was insane, and I was hooked instantly. I started training hiding and learning all about the world.

I think that is the feeling a lot of players want to have here. The sense of adventure, danger and a sort of community role play, even though it isn't really a role play, but we all like to think of ourselves as some type of hero/villian/crafter/tamer etc when we play our characters. Even if we dont role play the words, in our heads that is what we are thinking.

I think a part of you would enjoy the game more if you actually tried to find a community to go farm that dungeon or do that area with you, then when a lone PK comes to kill you, you can actually fight back, and I think you would find it exciting, blood pumping, a lot of enjoyment!

RDAs with trammel ruleset (NOT ALL OF THEM THOUGH) sounds like a cool idea! I like that one! I would be okay with something like that, maybe also a daily champ spawn that is held in Trammel. Gate opens once or twice a week at WBB at a set time - more scrolls than usually (but lower chance for a 120 scroll) and no PK interference.

No pk zone are terrible.. UO was ruined when trammel came out... ppl went from having 1mil.. to over 100mil... I mean if u dont want to be pked go play Path of Exile or right click mob game..

Personally I enjoy the fact that if I am farming.. and a red or 2 comes I have to run and hide or fight or die.. it still gets my heart beating.. Being able to just sit behind a dragon while it kills stuff with no worries is really bad for the economy... and tamers that dont ride mounts.. that is not the pks fault the cant get away... use only 1 dragon and a mount.. Yes there are safe zone for factions... but there is no benefit to sitting in them.. its not like u can farm gold in the hall of heros...

And the fact that red can come into town just makes the game more fun imo.. They cant attack you.. but if u wanna fight them you can..

and Dying to a Pk isnt like its the end of the world.. O I have to go get more regs.. Big deal.. UO is made for the sole reason of being able to do whatever you want...

Exactly. The items you need to farm, are player made or vendor bought, so its perfectly fine to accept death. It is part of the reason why UO is so great.

This is a perfect idea, the orc fort south of Cove should be sanctioned off from PKs so that us PvM types could hunt there with out worrying about being assassinated by some PK!

Yea doing that would make a safe spot for new players to train up their skills without being targeted by pks(new dungeon works for a time, but for only so long...) nobody is gonna get rich off of orc's/lizardmen in despise 1, but its safe for new players to train/get a tiny sum of gold going! Doubt it will ever happen though.

I mean seriously.. you have plenty of time in the young dung.. then you can gm almost anything but resist in Jhelom duel pits.. and I am pretty you are not gonna get pked there.. hell you can even bring the hired warrior into town to spar...

and many of you sound like there is no down side to being perma red basically.. and yes reds die... 48 hours of stat loss sucks...

Also if they add perma stat loss... there will be no where as many pks.. just blue griefers.. I mean seriously do you enjoy a game where there is never a challenge.. mobs are not that tough... There are much better games for hack and slash...

Also young players should just pick up all the crappy magic items tamers drop.. they are easy free money...

Cmon guys, its starting to turn towards disrespect for opinion in some of these replies.

The point I think the original poster was trying to make is that some people just want to relax and enjoy some simple PvM content without the threat of people causing their heart rate to jump or their anxiety medicine to renew.

I play on both sides of the fence in regards to this issue, much like @alck does with his sexuality. What the reds need to understand is that you NEED the PvMers, they don't NEED you.

in the last two weeks I have farmed roughly 4-6+ hours a day on THE high end mobs, prime time.

got attacked maybe 6 times total, only died twice (to CoM / aga crew .. jerks)

The PK problem here is that blues are scared shitless of PvP, not that there are too many reds.

Not true.. if no one was in dungs.... then ppl would just find other ways to fight... Also I always bring pvp gear when I go farm.. I feel this is mostly 120 tamers mad cause they spent so much time and money and die easily... If you made safe dungs.. ppl could just sit there with their dragons on guard and go afk basically.. I mean I die on my red and lose 40k gold weapons.. I dont cry about it.. then I have to sit for 2 days before I can even go again.. and plus if you made safe dung is there gonna be the same skill gain bonus and loot..??. It just sounds like a good place to macro. to me... Make lvl 1 of covetous safe.. but remove the bonus gains...

If anything they should make factions where its 25% split...

I am in favor of pks, I just want to make that clear. I just remember a time when I didn't understand the benefit of them, and they devalued the game for me. But they are the true "MOB" you need to be most careful of when venturing out of town (or WBB for that matter, I got killed at smithing area plenty of times). I wouldn't play UO without them, there would be NO challenge otherwise.

And yes, I think some of the blues crying about reds are being oversensitive and don't want to play on feluccia, therefore they probably should look elsewhere. But those who just honestly want a relaxed PvM environment on occasion, I could agree to give them a crappy farming area (one step above newbie dungeon) for an easier and relaxed experience free of pks.

Yes.. It would give new players enough time to learn the basics.. and get some resist from the gazers... But making a safe high end mob dung is a very bad Idea...

I don't think it has anything to do with the basics, if you cant figure shit out in 60 hours of young status...your parents need to consider a 4th trimester abortion.

It would just be a relaxed role playing type of experience for some gamers. And no, you wont find me there.
