How long does it take to GM Taming

Assuming you eat no skill scrolls and grind it out in dungeons with peacemaking, how many hours do you guys think it can be done in?

I'm thinking about making a tamer and am willing to put in some time, but I have heard very different numbers for how long it takes.

It it doable in ~50 hours? Or more like ~100 or ~1000

Probably ~200-300 hours, but that was before they took barrier island bulls away, and some other spots. Id say 400 is a good average when you take variables into account.

Edit bad mental math ;)

It is pretty easy until 80, because the mobs you need to tame to reach this level are numerous and grouped together in dungeons. After that, when you start taming hell cats and lava lizards, you find 2-3 of each per spawn, and gains are slower, you might reconsider your "no skill scroll" idea ;)

What I did is farm gold with a provo archer, raise taming til low 80s by myself, and ate scrolls after that. Tamer/bard will make you enough gold to buy them, on top of what you will loot yourself.

I am pretty sure the time invested in farming gold on your bard will be lower than the time invested in taming all that crap. But I can be wrong...

Honestly, I remember it taking me more or less 300 hours on OSI in 1999 and I heard everyone saying that it's much easier on this server (although it's still the hardest skill in the game)

I don't remember it being that bad until reaching 90, and even at 0.1 per hour (which is how it was on OSI) it's "only" 100 hours from 90 to gm (I used Bulls in Delucia and hell hounds all the way from 80 to gm)

I think you guys are somewhat exagerating it, but then again I might be wrong. I'll find out soon enough tho, I'm finishing to GM the mage skills on my newly created tamer and will probably start taming in 2 days from now.

On a side note, is peacemaking really necessary for training taming? I never had it on my old tamer and i remember there was a safe spot in fire or some other dungeon where you could teleport behind some rocks and just macro taming hell hounds for really good (well, if 0.1 or 0.2 an hour is good) and easy gains

Yeah, 150 is one thing, 300 is twice as much. I wouldn't doubt it talking 150 or even 200 hours, but 300 seems overkill.

How long did it take you from 50 to 85?

Peacemakin is essential I would say to GM taming because to do it efficiently, you need to be in dungouns as much as you can!

And what if i'm already 5x mage and just need taming + lore? Would it be worth to drop 2 gm skills just to train peace + Music? No safe spots to train taming in dungeon on this shard? Something like bard table but for hell hounds? I'm 100% sure i used a spot like that in Europa, but i really can't remember atm

Nope no safe spots for training taming. Taming is the top tier for PVM on the server and the owners want it to be a challenge to reach GM status, so they make it a bit harder then every other skill. In regards to droppings two skills for peace/music, I would say so yes. I made a simple loop when I GMed that would peace a mob then tame and then peace and tame, it would repeat and I would just watch it and hope to god I got a gain lol. This way the mob doesn't attack you and doesn't move around lol.

Well, this does indeed suck but i guess i have no other options, especially be cause there is no Delucia [emoji29]

The good news is skills are easy to gain and drop here so losing two and picking up two should be easy !

Played a bit over the weekend, taming scorps in Shame.

Went from 50-60 in ~5 hours, couple hours sat/sun and about an hour Friday.

Hmmm I have a tame macro that does all the clicking for me (I still have to be there to press the hot key and move to the animals initially) I would say its taken about 90 - 100 hours to get to 86.3 real, taming woodland creatures outside of dungeons. That includes 2 or 3 hours getting through high 70s to 80 with double skill gain when server died.

I find i spend more time killing other things/running away/dying/ than taming in dungeons so I gave up.

i dunno if its true or not, but I read or heard (i forget which) that you tend to gain more with successes so I macro'd animal lore to 105 early on. I'm now on 115 lore, helps do those 2nd, 3rd tame animals which also seems to help with gain.

I drink milk, eat and drink well water, been told that helps too.

Now I'm close to 90 it certainly has slowed down - but not to the point where I think I want to eat SS - though I watch tv on the same screen or look for idocs so I'm not so bored.

I'm really torn hahahah! I don't know if i want to go through all the hassle of training in dungeons (monsters, pks, griefers, peacemaking+music) or if I just want to tame everything I see while walking in the forests + ice island and watching television.
Sure, in dungeons you get 50% bonus but in the time you can tame 100 hell hounds in fire dungeon (much lower spawn rate, other mobs, pks ganking you) you can probably tame 500 polar bears/grizzlies/great harts/bulls/whatever.

IDK about the hell hounds part but my bro started up taming yesterday and went from 50-70 in one day while watching youtube videos on another screen in Shame

If you have peacemaking it's extremely simple there. Lure scorp to you, and run a spam peace/tame loop in razor. Drag to earth eles, rinse/repeat.

Unless you're running out of the scorpion area which you shouldn't be, you'll pretty much never get aggroed by other mobs there, and PKs come through occasionally but I think people exaggerate.

I haven't had as much time to play but I'm at 63 real from 50 and prolly played like 1-2 hrs/day since last friday, 5-6 hrs total.

A bit slower because I'm trying to farm simultaneously while I tame which slows things down and can get tricky at times.
